4shared Desktop is a client for the homonymous file-sharing network. Thus, its main purpose is allowing you to share files with other users. Consequently, it supports two main operations: uploading and downloading. The program can be set to start automatically with Windows and stay hidden in the System Tray.
In order to start a session, you should provide your 4shared user name and password.
The application’s multi-language interface is very intuitive. It is just a little more complex than using a standard file manager. Two tabs let you manage your upload and download tasks with ease. It is a shame that the program does not allow searching for shared files. Therefore, you will need to visit 4shared, perform the search there and add the desired files to your account. Only after refreshing the file list on the client you will be able to start downloading the file. Another inconvenience is that, although the program has a link to the site, it cannot pass the registration parameters to it so you will need to enter them again.
You can use the approximately 15 Gb available to store files on-line. Moreover, you can easily share a file or a folder. Unfortunately, there are only two sharing options: you can restrict access to all users except you or, on the contrary, allow access to everyone. There is no way you can grant access to specific users.
All in all, 4shared Desktop is a convenient way to manage your 4shared account. It has the advantage of letting you pause and resume uploads and downloads. In addition, it can also accelerate both processes by creating various transfer threads. Moreover, its latest versions include a data synchronization feature that helps you keep your files up-to-date. Unfortunately, many of the features provided by 4shared are only available from the web pages.
